Kan-ed 2.0 Network

Process for Connecting to Kan-ed 2.0

Free T-1 Connection!

The process detailed below must be followed by all entities that wish to connect to the Kan-ed 2.0 network. As explained in the Kan-ed 2.0 Connect Program literature you have received from Kan-ed, all Kan-ed members are eligible to receive a high-speed T-1 circuit (Free) or a 3mb circuit ($500/month) to the private virtual network. All circuits may include access to the commercial internet at no additional cost. There is also special reduced pricing available for larger circuits. For detailed information about the new Kan-ed 2.0 network, special pricing offered, and the answers to some frequently asked questions (FAQs), please visit the Kan-ed website (www.kan-ed.org) and access the documents on the right side of your screen under the Kan-ed 2.0 Connect Program banner. For questions about the Kan-ed 2.0 Connect program, please contact Charmine Chambers, Kan-ed Network Access Manager, at cchambers@ksbor.org, or at 785-296-7027.

In order to connect to the Kan-ed 2.0 Network, you must complete each of the three steps detailed below. Steps 1 and 2 must be completed no later than January 23, 2009 for any branch / site that wishes to connect to the network between now and June 30, 2010, whether connecting via a free T-1 circuit or at a higher bandwidth.

Step 1: Complete the New On-line Service Initiation Form
This is a short form requesting basic contact information and a few details about how you intend to connect to the Kan-ed network. This information is being asked to allow Kan-ed to start developing a schedule of connections, and does not obligate you to a particular speed or profile. Please note that this form must be completed for each branch / site that wants to connect.

Step 2: Complete both the Letter of Agency (LOA) and Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) Forms (Required for K-12 and Library Organizations Only)
For those taking advantage of the new Kan-ed 2.0 Connect Program, Kan-ed will now handle the filing of e-Rate funding requests related to the T-1 connection. Therefore you must complete both LOA and CIPA forms prior to the deadline listed above. Please note that these forms cannot be processed until you have completed the service initiation form in step 1. Also note that you are responsible to file e-Rate for any additional eligible services. If you have any questions about e-Rate or how it relates to this process, please contact the toll-free e-Rate hotline at 866-372-8302. Libraries can also contact Jeff Hixon, State Library of Kansas (785-296-3154, jeffh@kslib.info). K-12 organizations can also contact Melinda Stanley, Kansas State Department of Education (785-296-1204, mstanley@ksde.org).

The LOA form is a Microsoft Word fillable document and the CIPA form is a PDF file that can be filled out and printed using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader. Please be sure to select the appropriate LOA form. Both forms must be printed, signed and faxed to: 785-532-7185.

Step 3: Complete the New On-line Site Survey
The site survey is now available using the link provided below. Please note that only organizations that have already completed a service initiation form (step 2) will be able to access the site survey.
